On November 19, 2014 the winners of the photo competition “Swedish Innovations through Vietnamese Lenses” was announced at Hoa Sen University.

Photographer Vu Quang Ngoc, member of the Hanoi Association of Photographic Artists and the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, won the competition. He was rewarded a trip to Sweden and will have the opportunity to visit several of the 80 well-known museums in Stockholm. His visit will include the Nobel Museum and Fotografiska, the Swedish Museum of Photography, as well as other interesting locations to experience Swedish culture and innovation.

The second prize, a round-trip air-ticket to Phuket, Thailand, went to Hua Tat Dat. The Embassy of Sweden also uploaded the 27 best pictures that made it to the final round out of 600 pictures uploaded on Facebook for netizens to vote. The picture that received the most votes at the end of the allotted time with over 9,800 votes went to Vu Quang Hung a doctor at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. He was rewarded with a round-trip air ticket to Bangkok, Thailand.
Through photo competitions, Vietnamese people have the opportunity to learn about the origin of Swedish inventions and innovations in daily life such as the: wrench, ball bearing, Skype, refrigerator, auto seat belt, TetraPak carton box, torch, and welding helmet. In addition, the pictures reflect the Vietnamese point of view on the innovative and dynamic country of Sweden.

Ms. Camilla Mellander, the Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam said, “One picture is worth a thousand words and I am really impressed by the creativeness of the Vietnamese people. During the two-month competition over 600 amazing photos were received from many authors all over Vietnam. They have been a great contribution to enhance understanding and cultural exchange and to help strengthen a long lasting friendship between the people and the two countries.”

Twenty-seven of the best pictures in the competition were exhibited at Hoa Sen University, 8 Nguyen Van Trang, District 1, HCMC until November 30, 2014. The exhibition was open to the public from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm every day. These pictures showcased a more specific view about the Swedish innovations and creativity to the Vietnamese public and the role those innovations played in daily life that improved lives and made them easier.
The countrywide photo competition entitled “Swedish Innovations through Vietnamese Lenses” was part of a series of events to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Sweden-Vietnam diplomatic relations from August 20 to October 26, 2014, co-organized by the Embassy of Sweden and the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
As a result of the photo competition Vietnamese people were given the opportunity to learn about the origin of Swedish inventions and innovations in daily life such as the: wrench, ball bearing, Skype, refrigerator, car seat belt, TetraPak carton box, torch, welding helmet… and at the same time, these pictures reflected the Vietnamese point of view on the innovative and dynamic Sweden.
