Upon opening the new academic year October 3rd, 2014, Hoa Sen University organized a lecture series for the freshmen entitled “What is the Reason for Learning?”.
This was an opportunity for new students to listen to sharing from guest speakers coming from the outside and to learn many things, as-well-as showing their eagerness for learning and understanding the University.

During this first lecture, Dr. Giap Van Duong shared different aspects for answering questions related to the topic: “What is the Reason for Learning?” According to Dr. Giap Van Duong: “The destination of an education is to become a free human being, this is the basic philosophy of education for us to pursue. Therefore, in my opinion, we learn to become a free human being”.
The first lecture of the academic year has been a traditional activity at Hoa Sen University for many years. It is an opportunity for the students, representatives of the University and scholars coming from outside to closely exchange their opinions related to various topics. In recent years, Hoa Sen University has invited scholars from throughout the country as well as coming from abroad, such as Dr. Vu Minh Khuong, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Xanh and Professor Tran Van Tho, ... to come and share different topics with the freshmen as eye-openers for the students.
Biography of Dr. Giap Van Duong
Dr. Giap Van Duong was born in 1976 and he graduated from the Petrochemical Engineering Faculty, University of Technology in Ha Noi in 1999. Dr. Duong got his Master degree in Chemical Technology, Chonbuk National University (Korea) in 2002. He got his Doctorate in Engineering Physics at the Vienna University of Technology (Austria) in 2006.
He worked for some time at the University of Liverpool (UK) and the National University of Singapore (NUS). He returned to Vietnam in 2013 and founded a number of projects related to education including an Online Education Portal open to the masses namely GiapSchool, Books4Experts and Books4Children.
